All of these parts can be mix-n-matched together to form something that you think is well suited for your needs. I'm sure you will have more questions and whatnot so just post em here. I'm sure some of the others will post part ideas too.

Also, You may want to check Amazon.com's prices because last time I ordered through them instead of newegg for the best prices and free shipping. NewEgg.com is just an easier site to use because of their in depth tech specs and feedback.

I am really, really pleased with the i5 2500. Get a nice after market cooler on it (I have a beast of a thermal take air cooler on it) and I've got it up to almost 5ghz with just air, and 70c at load.

It's a workhorse of a CPU.

The DVD drive just pushes it way too over budget.

I'm going to be going with the higher end one since that is still in my budget. Just got a couple questions:

Any reason I shouldn't grab this instead (SSD)? It's cheaper and faster...no?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227706

Also, I checked out that motherboard and looked at the reviews.....lots of negative comments and seems to be picky when it comes to RAM and cards. I'm wondering what made this stand out.
***Edit: Also it's sold out =(

Check the dates on some of the negatives, This board is now in REVISION 3 which has fixed may of the issues. I am currently using this board with a lot of the same components listed for you and I have zero issue.

I listed the Intel SSD for you because a lot of the 3rd gen OCZ drives seem to have a high risk of instability and or failure. Intel sacrifices some speed (unnoticeable) for longevity and stability. The OCZ drive is far cheaper though, it's kinda a risk/reward scenario. 90% of the time you won't have any issue but I wont make any promises :P.

Also, if you are getting the liquid cooler listed on the higher list, you will also need to get some thermal paste : Thermal Paste + Cleaning Kit

Ah I see what you are talking about now. Yea, I would rather not have the risk and/or pain in the ass setup. I may not get an SSD anyway, still considering it.

the instability of my SSD was negated by just installing the OS onto a small partition of my HDD and just using the SSD for games. Sure a lot of people will say that my Windows Boot Time suffers cuz of that, but I only reboot once in a blue moon anyway...

Also, You will need a copy of win 7 to install.Windows 7
